Justin Viezbicke, from the Hawaiian Island Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, will give a presentation Tuesday, Jan. 13 about the endangered humpback whale. He will share stories and his knowledge about these remarkable marine mammals that call the Hawaiian Islands home.
The 6-7:30 p.m. presentation is at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Ballroom are free and open to the public.
The Puako Marine Speaker Series continues Thursday, Jan. 29 with a presentation on the often overlooked ecology of marine plants and the vital role of algae in a healthy coral reef. Â
Linda Preskitt, research biologist and avid scuba diver, will challenge the way to look at limu and giving the most up to date information on a recent algal bloom that covered a coral reef in West Hawaii. Â Â
She’ll also be introducing “Eyes of the Reef,” a volunteer program that’s goal is to spot invasive species, algal blooms, and coral bleaching early so that problems can be addressed before they get out of hand. Â See you all:
