Federal grant for UH-Hilo program

MEDIA RELEASE

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $683,808 grant to the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The grant, from the Native Hawaiian Education Act Program, continues the Pathways program conducted by Na Pua Noeau, Center for Gifted and Talented Native Hawaiian Children, from Oct. 1, 2008 to Sept. 30, 2009.

Since the Pathways Program’s inception in 2003, approximately 230 students have gained skills to ensure their success in pursuing educational and career goals in the natural and environmental sciences.

Pathways participants study the importance of bridging science and culture in order to preserve Hawaii’s resources. Students are encouraged to seek higher educational and career goals.
