Hula Kai whale watching kicks off Jan. 16

MEDIA RELEASE

Hula Kai’s whale watch cruises resume Jan. 16 and run through March 30.

Aboard the coastal whale watch cruise, marine guides share the story of humpback whales through lectures, visuals and firsthand commentary.

A hydrophone permits passengers to listen to the underwater songs of the humpback whale. Passengers gain a deeper understanding of humpback whale behavior in the colder coasts of Alaska, where they feed, and in the warm waters of Hawaii where they mate and give birth.

Noted in ancient Hawaiian traditions, these gentle underwater giants appear in the creation chants of the Hawaiian kumulipo.

Hula Kai, a 55-foot Technicraft power catamaran, features luxury and comfort while traveling. New upper and lower deck shade covers, stadium style seating, freshwater showers, snorkel and new Scuba Pro gear on board make Hula Kai the ultimate in ocean excursion.

The 2009 Hula Kai Whale Watch Cruise departs 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cost per person is $75 plus tax (minimum age 5 years old).

Snacks and soft drinks included. A no-host bar is available.

Capacity is limited to 42 passengers.

For 38 years, Fair Wind, Big Island Ocean Guides has been owned and operated by the Dant family of Kailua-Kona. They offer exclusive snorkeling and scuba diving tours to various locations along the beautiful Kona Coast.

Hula Kai and Fair Wind both have great tours. They’re mostly structured in the afternoon hours, where as some of the morning/evening tours from others can give more leeway to what you can do on a vacation.
