Sack N Save evacuated in Hilo; no injuries

MEDIA RELEASE

The downtown Hilo Sack N Save was evacuated shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 following a possible freon release.
No injuries were reported, however, staff and customers were directed to leave the store and head to the south east parking lot. Roads around the Kinoole Street store were cordoned off one block in each direction.

The hazardous materials unit was dispatched, as well as two engines and a medic unit, according to the Fire Department.
The incident report did not state whether any freon was found, but Fire Department personnel were back in their stations by 5:10 p.m.
