Two drown off Kapoho Lighthouse

MEDIA RELEASE

Fire/rescue crews recovered the bodies of two men who were swept from the shoreline fronting Kapoho Lighthouse late Saturday morning.

The men apparently drowned after being hit by a wave, falling and being swept into the ocean, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported.

Rescue crews were alerted at 11:45 a.m. and arrived to find the men floating face down in the water about 250 yards off Kapoho Lighthouse at about noon. A helicopter was used to recover the bodies of the two men, the Fire Department reported.

The identity of the men will be released by the Police Department. At least one of the men is reportedly in his 60s.
