UPDATE – Ka‘u pedestrian indentified

The Ocean View pedestrian killed Thursday, Dec. 4 has been identified as John Patrick Burns, police reported.

An autopsy conducted Friday, Dec. 5 at Kona Community Hospital showed Burns died due to multiple traumatic injuries which were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Burns was walking along Hokulani Boulevard in the Hawaiian Ocean View Ranchos subdivision in the Ka’u District between 11:30 p.m. and 1:08 a.m., when police received a 911 call from a resident returning home who found the pedestrian in the middle of the road. The man was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle fled after the collision.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver and location of the vehicle in this case.
