The South Kona Green Market, the local mauka market held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sundays on the green lawn of the Amy Greenwell Botanical Garden (across from the Manago Hotel in Captain Cook) is extending its hours until 2 p.m. for the holiday season.
Fresh local-grown produce and a variety of local fruits, plants and keiki plants to transplant, herbs, Kona coffee, freshly prepared foods, breads, cakes and other goodies, goat cheeses, fresh-caught fish, locally grown herbs, plus locally crafted items, jewelry, gourds and paintings are available. Also live music.
The market also will host a Winter Solstice Celebration 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21.
The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, marks the end of darkness and the beginning of light. Â This longer day cycle is cause for cultural celebration uniting communities worldwide. Â
In addition to picking up last minute gifts, enjoy music and dancing, activities for the kids, silent auction, farm-fresh produce and prepared foods. Â Â
This is an admission, alcohol and drug free event. It is sponsored by the Sanctuary of Mana Kea Gardens and hosted by South Kona Green Market.
