Multiple advisories issued for Hawaii Island through the weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island. Very heavy rain and thunderstorms from Waimea up to Saddle Road Junction and down through South Kona are occurring at this time. In addition, a High Surf Advisory is now in effect for North Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, and Puna.

Unstable weather continues advisories for Hawaii Island

The atmosphere over the state is very unstable, and mostly sunny morning conditions will give way to scattered afternoon heavy showers and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms will be capable of producing strong and gusty winds, frequent lightning, intense downpours, and hail.

This is a Civil Defense message. This is a High Surf and High Wind information message for Sunday October 15 at 10:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind advisory for North, South, and East Hawaii Island, including the interior regions.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a High Surf advisory for all shores of Hawaii Island.

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) reports their work crews are responding to spot power outages in isolated areas. As in all severe weather conditions, expect possible interruptions in power, cable and telephone services.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the High Surf Warning for the west facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 a.m. Friday (Jan 20). Surf along the west facing shores is forecast to be in the 10-12 foot range overnight lowering to 8-10 feet on Friday.

The Mauna Kea Access Road to the summit is closed above the Visitor Information Station due to snow and ice on the summit roads, thick fog and deteriorating weather conditions. The road will probably be closed tomorrow. We will continue to update this message as conditions change. The National Weather Service has upgraded their advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for Big Island Summits until 6 a.m. Saturday (Dec 11). Heavy snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring.
