Wind advisory continues for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the wind advisory for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet until 6 p.m. Friday (Jan 18).

Winds from the West are 25-35 mph with higher gusts.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution when driving on summit roadways.

Winds of 25-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph prompts advisory for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a wind advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday (Jan 16) for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet.

An upper level trough passing East of the state will produce strong Westerly winds through the night of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Wind, marine and surf warnings/advisories for the Big Island this weekend

Winds from the East are blowing at 20-40 mph with localized gusts as high as 50 mph. A high pressure system Northeast of the state has caused the strong winds. A gale warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday (Jan 6) for the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels, Big Island Leeward and Southeast waters. A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday (Jan 6) for all other coastal waters.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday (Jan 6) for East facing shores of the Big Island.

Blustery weather spurs wind and surf advisories

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory for Ka‘u, Waikoloa, Kohala, Waimea, Honokaa, Hilo, Volcano and the Saddle Road above 5,000 feet. The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday (Dec 14).

The winds are being generated from a high pressure system far North-Northeast of the state with wind speeds forecast to be 20-35 mph with localized gusts over 45 mph.
