Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains in West Hawaii

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii County until 1:15 a.m. Saturday (May 4).

At 10:04 p.m. weather radar showed a line of heavy showers extending from Hawi and South to Waikoloa Village. The line of heavy showers was nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Mahukona and Kawaihae.

Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains along the Kona coast

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 2 a.m. Tuesday (April 30).

At 10:42 p.m. weather radar showed persistent moderate to heavy showers continuing over portions of the Kona area from Kona Village Resort to Keahole Point to North of Kailua-Kona town. The showers were nearly stationary.

Chris Lieto, a pro triathlete who lives part-time in Kona, won the men’s race in a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 55 seconds.

Police are searching for a Waikoloa teen reported missing

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 17-year-old boy who was reported missing.

Matthew Campbell was last seen at his Waikoloa home on February 22. He may be in Kona, Hāmākua, South Kohala or Puna.

He is described as 5-foot-10, 150 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

Police net three people in Waikoloa drug bust

Three people were arrested Friday (February 22) when vice officers served a search warrant on a home in Waikoloa.

During the search at the house on the 68-1600 block of Alana Street, police recovered 13.5 grams of methamphetamine, 0.5 grams of marijuana, two handguns and various items of drug-related paraphernalia. They also recovered $8,852 in cash and two flat screen televisions for forfeiture.

Fire burns through Banjy’s restaurant in Waikoloa Village

Firefighters responded to a 6:16 a.m. alarm Monday (Feb 18) to a structure fire at Banjy’s Paradise Bar & Grill in Waikoloa Village.

Crews broke into the locked front door and found a small fire in the kitchen area of the restaurant spreading to the walls and into the ceiling.
