Police charge man with attempted murder for stabbing in Waikoloa

A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing Thursday evening (April 17) in Waikoloa.

At 6:48 p.m. Thursday, South Kohala patrol officers responded to a report of a man bleeding from the neck on the 68-1600 block of Malie Street in Waikoloa.

Responding officers located the victim, a 20-year-old Waikoloa man, who had multiple wounds to his torso and throat. He was taken to North Kohala Community Hospital.

Partial lane closures on Mamalahoa Hwy April 21 to July 31, 2014

Hawai‘i Electric Light Company announces a partial lane closure along sections of Highway 190 from the Waikoloa Junction (11 mile marker) to Pu‘uanahulu (19 mile marker) starting April 21 and continuing through July 31, 2014.

One lane will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Cargo truck crash closes Mamalahoa Hwy Thursday (April 17)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:05 p.m. alarm Thursday (April 17) to a cargo truck crash near the 15 mile marker of the Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 190).

Crews found a large International box truck, 33,000 GVW, rolled over onto its left side blocking both lanes of the highway with multiple fluids leaking. The driver had gotten out of the truck without injuries. Firefighters forced open the cargo area of the truck and removed 20 55-gallon drums and 12 30-gallon drums to prevent more leakage.

Wind advisories for Big Island, wind gusts over 65 mph forecast

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory for South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea, Waikoloa and Big Island summits over 8,000 feet through 6 p.m. this evening (April 14).

Oahu-based Soldiers will convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area, April 2, 4 and 6, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Flood advisory issued as heavy rains hit Waikoloa area

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 8 a.m. Tuesday (Feb 18).

At 5 a.m. weather radar showed heavy rain near Waikoloa Village, about 21 miles Northeast of Kailua-Kona. This area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. Other areas in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Waikoloa Beach Resort Puako and Kawaihae.

Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains in West Hawaii

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii County until 1:15 a.m. Saturday (May 4).

At 10:04 p.m. weather radar showed a line of heavy showers extending from Hawi and South to Waikoloa Village. The line of heavy showers was nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Mahukona and Kawaihae.

Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains along the Kona coast

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 2 a.m. Tuesday (April 30).

At 10:42 p.m. weather radar showed persistent moderate to heavy showers continuing over portions of the Kona area from Kona Village Resort to Keahole Point to North of Kailua-Kona town. The showers were nearly stationary.
