Hilo man charged with meth trafficking, over 84 grams of meth confiscated

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Hilo man with meth trafficking and other offenses stemming from the execution of a search warrant on Monday (April 7).

At 6:55 p.m. Monday, officers from the Area I Vice Section served the search warrant at a home in the Waiākea Uka area of Hilo. They recovered 84.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $17,500, paraphernalia associated with the distribution and use of crystal meth and 30.6 grams of marijuana.

Police search for suspect in attempted robbery

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred in Hilo on October 31.

At about 8 p.m. on that date, police responded to the Waiākea Villas after receiving a report from a 49-year-old Hilo man that while walking in the complex toward his vehicle in the parking lot, he was accosted by a man who brandished a weapon and demanded money.

Fire destroys Hilo home Saturday evening (June 15)

Fire/rescue units responded to an 8:45 p.m. alarm Saturday (June 15) to 545 Ainalako Road in Hilo for a structure fire.

Arriving fire crews found a single story home engulfed in flames with fire spreading to nearby trees and heavy brush. Firefighters worked to prevent the spread of the fire to a nearby structure and had the fire under control by 9:28 p.m. and out at 10:45 p.m.

Police charge Hilo woman with numerous crimes related to burglaries

Hawaiʻi County police charged a 24-year-old Hilo woman with eight property crimes Thursday (June 13), including three counts of burglary.

Suzy Chun was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant late Wednesday afternoon (June 12).

5,309 HELCO customers lose power in Puna and Waiakea Monday (March 25)

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) has announced that at 11:08 a.m. Monday (March 25), approximately 5,309 customers in the Puna and Waiakea areas experienced a momentary interruption when a transmission line unexpectedly tripped off line. The cause of the interruption is under investigation.

Water shut-off Friday (Feb 15) in Waiakea for waterline connection

Water will be temporarily turned off in certain areas of Waiakea on, Friday, February 15, 2013 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to do a waterline connection for the Cheng and Seto Subdivisions.

Upon the resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time you may notice turbid and/or discolored water.
