Big Island Police are looking for a 19-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in Hilo the Saturday morning (September 3) at a convenience store in Waiākea Uka. 

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a 6:16 a.m. call reporting that three male suspects entered the store and then one of them suspects pulled out a gun, showed it to the clerk and ordered her to open the cash register. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise.

Fire/rescue units repsonded to a 12:34 p.m. alarm Thursday (April 29) for a brushfire in Waiakea Uka.

Firefighers put out a three acre brushfire covering grassy terrain and overgrown brush using water drops from Chopper One along with ground units.

Big Island Police are investigating an apparent poisoning of a dog in Hilo.

A Hilo man reported that his English Mastiff, which was in a fenced yard in upper Waiakea Uka, began throwing up and died on November 16. The dog was valued at $2,500.

A veterinarian who performed a post-mortem examination on the dog found chunks of potato containing rat poison.
