Isemoto Contracting will be doing paving work tomorrow, Thursday, September 29th on the Māmalahoa Highway  from Shiraki’s Dry Cleaners to the Nāpō‘opo‘o Intersection.  Motorists are advised to expect delays with additional drive time of 30 – 60 minutes, as there will be traffic back-up due to alternating lane closures necessary for the paving work.   Work is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.  Isemoto Contracting and the Department of Public Works thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy from Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) to Kawaihae Harbor, Monday and Tuesday. Hawai‘i Electric Light Company announces a partial lane closure along sections of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) from just south of Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a (23-mile marker) to Makalei Golf Course (32-mile marker) from mid-September through December 2016. The closure will allow crews to upgrade transmission lines and equipment to improve system reliability.

Military convoys from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa in July

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area, beginning July 11. The scheduled convoy times are from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.-10 p.m., July 11-14 and July 15-17.

In conjunction with the Ironman 70.3 Hawaiʻi qualifier event, a temporary one-way traffic pattern will be in effect on Old Puakō Road in the South Kohala District on Saturday (June 4).

On that date between 4:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., traffic will be allowed to flow only in the Kona, or southerly, direction on Old Puakō Road between the entrance to Hāpuna Beach State Park and the entrance to Waialea Bay (“69 Beach”).

A temporary one-way traffic pattern will be in effect along a portion of Lanikaula Street from Friday, May 27, through Wednesday, June 15, weather permitting.

Traffic will flow in the mauka, or westerly, direction only on Lanikaula Street, between Kinoʻole Street and Kalili Street between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Hawaiʻi Island police remind motorists that right turns are to be made from the roadway and not from the right shoulder.

Puna District Captain Samuel Jelsma said some motorists wrongly believe it is safer to travel onto the right shoulder before turning, to allow traffic to pass on the left.
