The Hawaii Police Department has reported a road closure in the South Hilo District.

Avoid the Puainako Street Extension also known as Route 2000 in the area of Wilder Road due to fallen trees blocking the entire roadway.

State Highway Crews are responding to the location for tree and debris removal and the roadway is expected to remain closed until about 5 p.m.

A suggested alternative route is Kaumana Drive.

Partial lane closure in Kona for HELCO transmission line upgrades

Hawai‘i Electric Light Company announces a partial lane closure along sections of Highway 190 from Ahikawa Street to Makalei Golf Course (31-mile marker) in west Hawai‘i from May 1 to August 31. The closure will allow crews to upgrade transmission lines and equipment to improve system reliability.

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA), April 27-30. In conjunction with the 54th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, there will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Kalanikoa Street in Hilo.

Traffic will be allowed to flow in the makai, or northerly direction on Kalanikoa Street between Piʻilani Street and Kuawa Street during the festival. The one-way traffic pattern will remain in effect 24-hours beginning at  12 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, April 19, through 8 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017.
