One-way traffic on Kalanikoa Street during Merrie Monarch Festival

In conjunction with the 51st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, a temporary one-way traffic pattern will be in effect on Kalanikoa Street in Hilo.

Traffic will be allowed to flow in the makai, or northerly direction on Kalanikoa Street between Piʻilani Street and Kuawa Street during the festival. The one-way traffic pattern will remain in effect around the clock from 12 noon Wednesday, April 23, through 8 a.m. Sunday, April 27.

Fallen tree brings down utility lines in Puna, temporarily closes Route 132 Monday (March 24)

Hawaii County Police report Route 132 (Pahoa-Kapoho Road) is now open to traffic in all directions. The road had been closed due to a fallen tree and downed utility lines.

Kamehameha Avenue to have all but two lanes closed starting Monday (March 3)

The traffic pattern on Kamehameha Avenue from Ponahawai Street, to the Pauahi Street intersection will be one lane of travel in each direction through September 2014.

Banyan Drive one-way traffic during Health Fair walk (March 15)

To accommodate mass walkers at the 17th Annual Hilo Heart & Stroke Walk & Health Fair, a temporary one-way traffic pattern will be in effect on Banyan Drive.

Traffic will be allowed to flow in the makai, or northeasterly, direction on Banyan Drive between both sides of Lihiwai Street. The one-way traffic pattern will be in effect between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 15.

During these times, parking will be allowed only on one side of Banyan Drive to coincide with the one-way traffic pattern.

Kaluiiki Stream Bridge closed for repairs Wednesday (Feb 12)

Kaluiiki Stream Bridge, on Akolea Rd, in South Hilo will close Wednesday, February 12 to replace wooden timbers. The bridge will remain closed to motorists and pedestrians until repairs are done by the Department of Public Works. Completion is expected on or, before Friday, February 14. Bridgework is based on weather.
