Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person wanted in connection with a theft. On May 30, 2015, an unknown person entered the Keaʻau Shell gas station and used the victim’s stolen bank card to purchase items. The suspect’s image was captured on a surveillance video.

Police investigating theft of 10 weed whackers from Panaewa Zoo

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the theft of weed whackers over the weekend from Hawaiʻi County’s Panaʻewa Zoo. Sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday (May 31), 10 red Shindaiwa model T282X weed trimmers, valued at $600 each, were removed from the zoo’s premises. One of them was later recovered from nearby bushes.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the theft last month of numerous high-priced items owned by the County of Hawaiʻi from the West Hawaiʻi Veterans Cemetery.

Sometime between 2 p.m. March 12 and 8:30 a.m. March 13, numerous items, including heavy equipment, were removed from the Veterans Cemetery located on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway between the 88- and 89-mile markers across from the entrance to Kua Bay. The value of the items was estimated at $24,785.

Since February, police have received several reports of elderly female shoppers who had purses removed from shopping carts at various stores in Hilo while the shoppers’ backs were turned momentarily. The thefts are being actively investigated.

A Hilo man has been charged with 16 offenses stemming from the theft of a purse. The purse was stolen from an 87-year-old woman at a drug store on Puainako Street in Hilo just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday (March 22). Police investigating copper theft in Wood Valley area of Ka‘u

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a theft that was discovered on January 7 in the district of Kaʻū. Sometime between 10 p.m. January 5 and 8 a.m. January 6, unknown persons removed approximately 4,000 feet of No. 4 copper wire from the Wood Valley area. The copper was valued at $39,360.
