Hamakua man turns himself in, is arrested in sex assault case

On Wednesday (December 28, 2011) during the early morning hours an adult female reported being sexually assaulted at a South Kohala public beach.

Big Island police arrested 27-year-old Eagle Adam Tobin of Honokaʻa, for Sexual Assault.
Tobin turned himself in to police on January 5.

He was released pending further investigation.

Police report pest control scam in South Kohala

Big Island police are warning the public about a likely scam involving insecticide services being performed without prior authorization.

On November 28, police responded to a report that an 86-year-old South Kohala man had paid thousands of dollars to two unknown men after they supposedly protected his home from insects.

Fireworks suspected in brushfire at Puako Monday (July 4)

Firefighters responded to a 2:19 p.m. alarm Monday (July 4) to Old Puako Beach Road for a brushfire across from the area known as Beach 69.

Crews used two fire engines a tanker unit, medic unit and nine firefighers in total to work the fire. Firefighers were able to get the fire under control by 2:43 p.m. and it was declared out at 3:50 p.m.

A 69-year-old woman died Monday (June 21) from an apparent drowning in waters along the South Kohala Coast. The victim, who was vacationing with family on the Big Island, has been identified as a Gloria Graf of Glendale, California.

The 32nd Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk will be held along Mauna Lani Drive. Registered walkers are treated to food, drink and first aid at checkpoints along the walk route. All checkpoints are operated and supplied with refreshments and helpers by Hawai‘i hotels and allied organizations. Updated: Driver in head-on collision on Queen K Hwy (March 6) died of natural causes

An autopsy conducted Monday (March 8) on Kimo K. Elderts, 28, who was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, .3 miles south of the 71 mile-marker on Saturday (March 6) concluded that he died of natural causes and not from injuries sustained in the crash.
