Unstable weather continues advisories for Hawaii Island

The atmosphere over the state is very unstable, and mostly sunny morning conditions will give way to scattered afternoon heavy showers and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms will be capable of producing strong and gusty winds, frequent lightning, intense downpours, and hail.

As of 6:30 p.m. Monday (Jan 28) the rangers report the Mauna Kea Access Road is closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station due to snow and ice on the roadways. Temperatures are below freezing, with the humidity peaking consistently over 90%.
