Governor Neil Abercrombie signed House Bill 1038 which raises the retirement age for certain new employees to 60 years-old and most others to 65 years-old. The number of years to be 'vested' rises from five to 10 years. A dozen other bills were also signed into law by Abercrombie.

Governor Neil Abercrombie signed House Bill 1038 which raises the retirement age for certain new employees to 60 years-old and most others to 65 years-old. The number of years to be ‘vested’ rises from five to 10 years. A dozen other bills were also signed into law by Abercrombie.

Nationwide state and local public retirement systems assets drop nearly $180 billion in 2008

The nation’s state and local government employee retirement systems totaled $3.2 trillion in holdings and assets in 2008, a loss of $178.8 billion, according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Hawaii government retirees received $811,454 in 2007
