Kona man charged with meth trafficking

A Kona man has been charged with meth trafficking and other offenses after being found with crystal methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, officers from the Area II Vice Section made contact with a man and a woman in a car in Kailua-Kona during the course of a drug investigation. After searching the car, police recovered 248.5 grams of a crystalline substance, a small amount of a dried green leafy substance, paraphernalia associated with meth distribution and $2,200 in cash for forfeiture.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 15-year-old Pepeʻekeo girl who was reported missing.

Shaniyah Das-Laro was last seen in Pepeʻekeo on Saturday (April 12). She is described as 5-foot-1, 100 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Police ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the Police department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

A Hilo man has been charged with burglary and theft for allegedly stealing items from a Hilo home in February.

On February 25, a 27-year-old Hilo man reported that he had video surveillance of the suspect removing tools from his attached carport.

Police are searching for a Hilo girl reported missing

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 17-year-old Hilo girl who was reported missing.

Brianna Kehaulani Freitas-Jones was last seen in Hilo on March 21. She is described as Caucasian, 5-foot-7, 130 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.

Police ask that anyone with information on her whereabouts call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.

Road work being done in Umauma

Road construction in Umauma is ongoing on Highway 19 at the 16-mile marker.

Hawaiʻi Island police are reminding motorists to abide by all traffic control signs and devices in the construction area, specifically the traffic control lights at both ends of the bridge.

To enhance motorist safety, patrol officers will continue to monitor these areas for compliance.

Waimea woman charged with felonies due to forged checks

A 23-year-old Waimea woman has been charged with eight felonies in connection with a stolen checkbook.

The victim, a 58-year-old Hōlualoa woman, reported on April 7 that a new checkbook from her bank had been stolen. Police investigation determined that some of the checks were later forged and cashed.

Autopsy results released of man who died after arrest

The final results of an autopsy conducted Wednesday (February 5) on the body of 39-year-old Randall Hatori of Kailua-Kona concluded that the cause of death was cardio-respiratory arrest due to the combined effects of high levels of methamphetamine in his blood, an enlarged heart and a physical struggle.

Police DUI stats for the week of April 7-13, 2014

During the week of April 7, 2014, through April 13, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 35 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 387 DUI arrests compared with 385 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.5 percent.

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 42-year-old Hilo man wanted for a parole violation.

Dale Daniel Arruda is described as part Hawaiian, 5-foot-7, 170 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes. He may have a goatee.

He is known to frequent the Puna District.
