During the week of February 13, 2017, through February 19, 2017, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 30 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. Four of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 178 DUI arrests compared with 144 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.6 percent.

Waimea man is charged with robbery and assault on California visitors

A Kamuela man has been charged in connection with a violent confrontation with two visitors from California near Hapuna Beach Park on Monday (February 13). At 8:20 a.m. Thursday (February 16), 30-year-old Herbert A. M. Lee was charged with second-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree assault. His bail was set at $7,000.

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a burglary January 16 at a county office off Pāhoa Village Road. Patrick Iwanu Hanato of Pāhoa was arrested Tuesday (February 14) and charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $20,000.
