Hawaii Police Department is asking the public to drive use caution when traveling in the South Kohala District due to heavy rains and run off. There is a slow moving storm system in the area that is expected to last several hours. Please drive carefully on Saddle Road between the 47-49 mile markers (above Waikii Ranch) and Highway 190 between the 6-9 mile markers (between Saddle Rd./Hwy 190 junction and Waikoloa Rd.) due to heavy rains, occasional flooding and heavy run off.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 62-year-old Honokaʻa man who was reported missing on Tuesday (May 14).
Kevin Devlin, also known as Shawn Devlin, was last seen on Monday (May 13) between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Waipio Valley, where he reportedly was going for a swim. He is described as Caucasian, 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with short, thin white hair.

During the week of May 6, 2013, through May 12, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Eight were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 486 DUI arrests compared with 520 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.5 percent.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department is hosting several HI-PAL “Click It or Ticket” basketball tournaments during the month of June.
June 8-9 is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Keaʻau High School gym and covered courts. This event is open to youth in the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, girls 10 and under, girls 12 and under, girls 14 and under, high school boys and high school girls. The deadline to complete the registration packet and enter this event is May 31.

Hawaiʻi Island police are warning the public about a scam involving email messages claiming to be from financial institutions.
The email says it is an alert from a named bank and claims that the recipient’s account has experienced suspicious online activity.

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a 26-year-old Hilo man for breaking into a home in Hilo last week.
At 2 p.m. Tuesday (May 7), after conferring with prosecutors, detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section charged Scottie I.K. Yanagawa with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. Yanagawa’s bail was set at $35,000. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Wednesday (May 8).

Kennedy proclaimed every May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week it falls in as Police Week. In Hawai’i County, Police Week activities this year are scheduled from Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 17.
