Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating an incident Wednesday evening in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna.

In response to an 8:25 p.m. call, officers received a report that two men wearing masks had gone to a home on 23rd Avenue and assaulted a 64-year-old man. The men then reportedly fled the area in a white pickup truck described as possibly a Nissan or Datsun.

Hawaiʻi Island police have initiated a murder investigation in connection with the discovery of a woman’s body on her Puna property.

On Tuesday evening (August 25), Puna District officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Kapoho Kai Drive. Investigation led to the discovery of a woman’s body, outside her home, with suspicious injuries.

During the week of August 17, 2015, through August 23, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 674 DUI arrests compared with 769 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.4 percent.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 37-year-old Waimea man wanted on six bench warrants for contempt of court. Jacob Kawaa Freebairn is described as 5-foot-5, 150 pounds with blue eyes and short graying light brown hair. Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
