Drivers along the Saddle Road may have seen some smoke in the sky from some airbursts over Pohakuloa Training Area Thursday (Jan 19). The military is conducting training maneuvers at PTA.

U. S. Army Garrison-PTA Command will open portions of the training area, here, to local archery hunters this weekend, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1-2, in a continuing conservation initiative to control the wild hog, goat and sheep population in PTA conservation areas.
Passes and hunting flyers will be available at designated check-in stations beginning Dec. 30 after 5 p.m.

PTA bird hunting opportunities this weekend POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – U. S. Army Garrison-Hawaii Command will open portions of the training area, here, to local bird hunters this weekend, Dec. 24-26, in selected PTA locations.
Shot gun bird hunting will be permitted during approved times in training areas 1-4, 12, 14 and 15.

Navy aircraft from Carrier Air Wing TWO aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) will conduct training exercises which include dropping flares and bombs between 10-11 p.m. over the two day period.

Hawaii-Bird hunting will be allowed Dec.10-11 at Pohakuloa Training Area in training areas 1-4. Temporary hunting passes and maps will be issued at designated check-in/check-out stations beginning at 5 a.m. and check-out no later than 7 p.m. on both days.

Military units will convoy from Kawaihae Harbor, K-Pier, to Pohakuloa Training Area, Wednesday Oct. 5, between 10 a.m. and noon, and Friday Oct. 7, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and, also, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., via Akoni Pule Corridor, Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Waikoloa Road, Mamalahoa Highway and Saddle Road.
