Two burglaries have been reported on Old Mamalahoa Highway near Awapuhi Place.

The first burglary was reported on Monday (August 7), when a residence was broken into through the kitchen door. Suspects removed 67 boxes of Pergo XP curly koa laminate flooring.

Thieves steal ATV and other items in Ninole burglary

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a burglary which occurred sometime between (May 28 and May 29) at Umauma Zipline in Ninole. Suspects broke into the warehouse and removed several items including a 2017 Kawasaki Mule 6-person ATV. The value of the items taken is estimated at $29,895.

Sometime between 3:30 p.m. Friday (September 30) and 6:30 a.m. Monday (October 3), a black Big Text hydraulic lift utility trailer was removed from Waikamalu Park. The trailer, which bears the license plate 924HYY, is valued at $13,000. Its left rear drop-down ramp is bent.

A 48-year-old Ninole man was found dead Sunday morning (January 30) from injuries he sustained in an all-terrain vehicle crash on a private road off Piha-Kahuku Road in Ninole in the District of North Hilo.

The victim was identified as Bill A. Maclean of a Ninole address.

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:09 a.m. alarm Sunday (Jan 30) for a report of an ATV crash which occurred during previous night. The crash occurred approximately 3/4 mile off Piha-Kahuku Road on 1 Lane Road.

Fire dispatch reports that a lone ATV rider was supposed to pick-up a female passenger Saturday night but never arrived for the passenger who kept phoning him throughout the night without answer.
