Police arrest Kona woman on suspicion of attempted murder

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with an investigation of a shooting Friday morning (March 28) in Hōlualoa. Randi-Keli K. Banagan was arrested at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 29) at a residence off of Captain Cook Road.

Police release pair who were arrested on suspicion of murder

Hawaiʻi Island police have released two people who were arrested Wednesday (March 26) on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 59-year-old Hilo man.

Results of an autopsy conducted Friday afternoon (March 28) on the body of Robert A. Evanson are being deferred pending further tests.

Police identify victim in Hilo murder investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the victim in a murder investigation as 59-year-old Robert A Evanson of Hilo.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday afternoon (March 28) to determine the cause of death.

At 7:32 p.m. Wednesday (March 26), police responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Ululani Street in Hilo. Upon arrival, police discovered Evanson’s lifeless body in an apartment unit. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, were he was officially pronounced dead.

Arrests made for murder at Hilo apartment Wednesday (March 26)

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a murder Wednesday (March 26) at a Hilo apartment complex.

At 7:32 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Ululani Street. Upon arrival, police discovered the lifeless body of a 59-year-old man in an apartment unit. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, were he was pronounced dead.

Police investigate attempted murder and suicide in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating an attempted murder and suicide in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Kaʻū.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday (March 12), Kaʻū patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting at a property on Tiki Lane at the intersection of Luau Drive.

Police investigation determined that two men, who live in separate dwellings on the property, got into an argument. The victim, a 37-year-old man, entered his house and the suspect, a 48-year-old man, followed him and shot him. He then stepped out of the house and fatally shot himself.

Police have arrested a 38-year-old Mountain View man for a 2011 murder in Hilo.

At 9:40 a.m. Tuesday (January 28), acting on a tip, police arrested Xavier J. Cortez Jr., also known as Pee Wee Cortez, on the strength of a sealed arrest warrant for second-degree murder.

Alaska man wanted in connection with murder investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police are renewing their request for information about a 22-year-old Alaska man who was reported missing.

Boaz D. Johnson of Petersburg, Alaska, last spoke to his family at noon on May 27.

Johnson is also wanted for questioning in connection with the death of 25-year-old Brittany-Jane Royal, whose body was found May 28 in waters off Kalapana. Royal and Johnson had reportedly been camping together before her death, which is being investigated as a murder.
