Crivello is Kohala’s Officer of the Quarter

The Hawaiʻi Island Safety and Security Professionals Association recognized Community Policing Officer Kristi Crivello as “Kohala Officer of the Quarter” during a ceremony November 14 at the Four Seasons Resort Hualālai. Officer Crivello, who is assigned to the South Kohala District, was honored for discovering and solving a felony theft case before it was reported.

A 34-year-old Kailua-Kona woman was attacked by a shark while surfing at Halaula Lighthouse in North Kohala.

At 11:12 a.m. Friday (October 31), police received a report that the victim was en route to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital with injuries to two fingers.

Two people charged with theft and burglary in North Kohala

Two people have been charged with theft and burglary in connection with a break-in last week in Kapaʻau. The burglary at a home on Lehuʻula Circle was reported October 5. Numerous items valued at $3,000 were stolen, including electronics, purses and wallets.

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the man who died Wednesday (September 10) from injuries he received in a single-vehicle collision on Kohala Ranch Road and Olomana Road in the Kohala Ranch gated subdivision in North Kohala.

He was identified as 60-year-old Christopher A. Sprecher of Salt Lake City, Utah.

A 50-year-old Salt Lake City, Utah, man died following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon (September 10) in Kohala Ranch.

His name is being withheld pending positive identification.

Responding to a 4:05 p.m. call, police determined that a 1998 Toyota Land Rover sports-utility vehicle was traveling east on Kohala Ranch Road at the intersection with Olomana Road when he lost control, ran off the right shoulder and collided with a tree.

The fire department's Chopper Two had spotted the kayakers and hovered over the area to determine if the pair was in distress and to see if they could paddle to shore.
