Suspect involved in shooting of woman and police officer surrenders in Kohala

A man who had been barricaded in his home since Monday night (July 13) is now in police custody. No one was injured during his arrest. After the Police Department’s Special Response Team converged on the scene, shots were fired by the suspect, who eventually surrendered.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating three thefts within a week at a nursery in Kapaʻau. 

Sometime between July 5 and July 7, $100 worth of potted plants were removed from a bamboo nursery on Pratt Road. Between the evening of July 10 and the morning of July 11, $500 worth of potted plants were removed. Between the evening of July 11 and the morning of July 12, $2,456 worth of potted plants were removed.

A high surf advisory is in effect for west facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Saturday (Feb 21).

Surf is 6-10 feet across west facing shores of the Big Island in Kona and Kohala.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
