Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:44 a.m. alarm Monday (Sept 18) for a sinking fishing boat six miles west of Kealakekua Bay in Kona.

Three fishermen, in their 60s, were in a 22-foot fishing boat which was sinking and they managed to phone the Coast Guard and Fire Department letting them know of their situation and position offshore using cellphones.

Police still seeing information on hit-and-run crash in Kealakekua

Police traffic investigators are renewing their request for information about the identity of the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle/pedestrian crash in Kealakekua on February 28. The crash crash on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) and Hokukano Road killed the pedestrian, 71-year-old Francisco Asuncion of Kealakekua.

Fire destroys two-story residence in Kealakekua Bay area Sunday (Nov 18)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:13 a.m. alarm Sunday (Nov 18) to 82-6023 Kahauloa Road in the Kealakekua Bay area for a structure fire. Firefighters found a 20×30 foot two-story wood structure with a metal roof engulfed in flames with neighbors using garden hoses to protect the surrounding areas.

Big Island police have initiated an abuse of a family/household member investigation in connection with an injured infant.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday (July 20), Kona patrol officers responded to Kona Community Hospital, where a 3-month-old Kealakekua girl had been admitted for burns reportedly caused by a hot bath. Doctors also found evidence of bone fractures.
