Police are investigating an auto theft in the Kalopa area of Hamakua

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male party involved in a robbery investigation involving the theft of a dark gray 2013 Subaru BRZ two-door sedan, license plates (SBA-186), that occurred in the Kalōpā area in the Hāmākua District.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 4:23 p.m. alarm Monday (Sept 10) for a two car crash near the 39 mile marker of the Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 19) East of Honokaa.

Rescuers found both cars down a 15 foot embankment laying on their sides.

On Thursday, July 1, 2010, Area I Vice Officers executed a Search Warrant at a Kalopa residence in the Hamakua District which resulted in the arrests of four individuals in conjunction with cockfighting activity.

The warrant was served at approximately 8:15 p.m., after Vice Officers received information of possible cockfighting being held at the residence.

A 88-year-old woman from Pa‘auilo died Wednesday (June 2) from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash which occurred on May 19, 2010 at the intersection of Route 19 and Papalele Street in Kalopa.

The victim was identified as Beatrice Yago of a Pa‘auilo address.

The County Public Works Department reopened Ka`apahu Road at the Sand Gulch in Kalōpā, Hāmākua on Friday, April 30. Damaged by the 2006 earthquake, Willocks Construction Company installed a guard rail, resurfaced 130-feet of roadway and stabilized the slope on the makai (gulch side) of Ka’apahu in three-and-a-half weeks, which is three months ahead of schedule. The contract allowed repairs to continue through August 11.
