Hawaiʻi Island police have initiated an assault investigation in connection with a man found badly injured in Kailua-Kona on Tuesday morning.

At 5:55 a.m. Tuesday (July 1), patrol officers conducting routine checks near the Kailua pier observed an unconscious local male lying face down on the makai sidewalk of Aliʻi Drive by the sea wall.

Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers cited the owner of a 47-foot sailing vessel in Kailua Bay on Friday, May 2, for damage caused to coral reef by the vessel’s anchor chain. The final results of an autopsy conducted Wednesday (February 5) on the body of 39-year-old Randall Hatori of Kailua-Kona concluded that the cause of death was cardio-respiratory arrest due to the combined effects of high levels of methamphetamine in his blood, an enlarged heart and a physical struggle.
