Fire/rescue responded to a 7:07 p.m. alarm Thursday (Feb 2) to Royal Poinciana Way in Kona for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find flames coming out of the front two windows of a two bedroom, one bath duplex. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen and living room areas but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the home. Most of the contents of the home were destroyed but there was little damage to the structure of the house itself.

The Department of Public Works Traffic Division will be working on the new traffic signals at the Henry St. and Alahou St. intersection beginning on Thursday, December 1st and ending on Thursday, December 15th.  Daily work hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., weather conditions permitting. There will be no work on the weekend.

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a Kailua-Kona man in connection with a body found late Tuesday afternoon (October 18) off Hawaiʻi Belt Road.

At noon Saturday (October 22), Kona Patrol officers arrested 29-year-old Gafatasi Jorden Kaipo Napoleon in Kailua-Kona.

He was taken to the Kona police cellblock, where he is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.

On Sunday (October 16), police received an anonymous tip about a possible murder in Kailua-Kona.
