Police are searching for a Kailua-Kona girl reported missing

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 16-year-old Kailua-Kona girl who was reported missing. Kuuipo Taketa was last seen in Kona on January 19. She is described as 5-foot-2, 115 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

She was identified through fingerprints Tuesday (June 2) as 62-year-old Bobbie Jackie Carnathan of Kailua-Kona, who was reported missing Saturday (May 30).

An autopsy conducted Wednesday (June 3) determined that she died from traumatic injuries consistent with a fall from a height. Police do not suspect foul play.

Hawaiʻi Island police have initiated a missing person case in connection with a swimmer last seen in waters off Wawaloli Beach 'OTEC Beach.'

In response an 11:49 a.m. call reporting a possible swimmer in distress, Kona Patrol Officers made contact with a a 26-year-old man, who reported that he had been swimming with an acquaintance, 26-year-old Richard Demby of Kailua-Kona, but couldn’t find him after he returned to shore.

A 47-year-old fisherman died Friday (May 29) in Kailua-Kona during a fishing accident.

Responding to a 10:48 a.m.call, police learned that a swordfish had been observed in Honokōhau Harbor and that fisherman Randy Llanes of Kailua-Kona had jumped into the water with a spear gun. The fish was then seen thrashing about, leaving a puncture wound to the man’s upper chest.
