Isemoto Contracting will be doing paving work tomorrow, Thursday, September 29th on the Māmalahoa Highway  from Shiraki’s Dry Cleaners to the Nāpō‘opo‘o Intersection.  Motorists are advised to expect delays with additional drive time of 30 – 60 minutes, as there will be traffic back-up due to alternating lane closures necessary for the paving work.   Work is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.  Isemoto Contracting and the Department of Public Works thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

Results of Keoua’s 30th Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Race Saturday (Aug 20)

The 30th annual Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Canoe Races were sponsored by Keoua Canoe Club and held at Honaunau Saturday (Aug 20). All races started and finished at Honaunau. The Juniors raced on a three mile course, Women and Mixed crews on an eight mile course, with the Men paddlers racing for 10 miles.

Work continues on the County of Hawai‘i’s highway intersection improvement project this weekend. One lane of Māmalahoa Highway will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 to allow Hawaiian Telcom to relocate overhead cables to newly placed utility poles near the intersection of Māmalahoa Highway and Nāpo‘opo‘o Road in Kona.

Hawai‘i Electric Light announces a scheduled power outage in Napo‘opo‘o and Ke‘ei on Thursday, June 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The outage will affect about 140 customers from Lower Napo‘opo‘o Road to Ke‘ei Beach. Crews will remove and replace a power pole on Lower Napo‘opo‘o Road.

Kona man charged with burglary and other offenses

A Hōnaunau man has been charged with five offenses after police responded to a report of burglary at a Kona hotel. Shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday (December 8), Kona Patrol officers responded to the 75-5700 block of Aliʻi Drive, where hotel employees were holding a suspect.

Police charge Kona woman in credit card fraud case

On January 8, 2014 a 37-year-old Kealakekua man reported to police that his wallet had been stolen and that several unauthorized transactions were conducted with the victim’s credit card that was in the wallet. Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation and identified a suspect in the case.

The search continued Friday (Feb 1) for a missing diver off the coast of Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park. The missing diver was last seen on Wednesday (Jan 30) at the park at about 4 p.m. The man’s keys, wallet and cellphone were found in his truck at the park.
