Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 14-year-old Hilo boy who was reported missing.

Jaime Swain-Agcalon was last seen in Hilo on Sunday, April 2, 2017.

He is described as Japanese-Filipino, 5-foot-5, 145 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing an orange and gray tank top, black shorts, and white shoes.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a male (shown holding a skateboard in surveillance video footage) wanted for questioning for a theft committed on late Tuesday evening, April 11, 2017, from a drugstore located on Kilauea Avenue near Downtown Hilo.

Firefighers responded to a 4:13 a.m. alarm for a structure fire at 271 Haili Street Wednesday (April 26).

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from an apartment complex. Upon entering a unit filled with smoke flames were seen in the center of the studio apartment. The fire was out by 4:30 a.m. with the room charred by the high heat of the fire.

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a 33-year-old Hilo man on Monday (April 24) on suspicion of first degree robbery.

At 12 noon Monday, South Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a woman who was reportedly being held in her vehicle by a man with a gun.  The victim, a 30-year-old Hilo woman, told police that an acquaintance of hers threatened to take her vehicle while holding a handgun.

In conjunction with the 54th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, there will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Kalanikoa Street in Hilo.

Traffic will be allowed to flow in the makai, or northerly direction on Kalanikoa Street between Piʻilani Street and Kuawa Street during the festival. The one-way traffic pattern will remain in effect 24-hours beginning at  12 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, April 19, through 8 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Firefighters responded to an 11:55 a.m. alarm Saturday (April 15) to 853 Kealakai Street in Panaewa for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find an abandoned 16,000 square-foot single-story steel building that used to be a poultry and hog farm with about 25 percent of its contents on fire. The building contained used appliances and various mechanical items in disarray.
