Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 14-year-old Hilo boy who was reported missing. Koltan Yago was last seen in Hilo on March 20. He is described as Japanese, 5-foot-6, 114 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Police identify woman seen during Hilo shoplifting case

Thanks to tips from the public, Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a woman whose image was captured on a surveillance camera during a shoplifting at a retail establishment in downtown Hilo on May 19. Police thank the public for their assistance. The investigation is continuing.

Hilo man charged in connection with restaurant break-ins

A Hilo man has been charged with eight offenses in connection with break-ins at a Hilo restaurant. Police initially responded to a report that the restaurant, located on the 300 block of Keawe Street, had been broken into sometime between Wednesday (May 18) and Thursday (May 19).

Hawaiʻi Island police are continuing a May 2, 2016 Hilo robbery investigation.

At 6:15 a.m., a 27-year-old Hilo man was assaulted near the corner of Keawe Street and Haili Street and his wallet and cell phone were taken.

The suspect is described as a local male, about 5-foot-10, 125-130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt.

The victim declined treatment for his injuries.

Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred early Tuesday (May 17) morning in the Hilo area.

Shortly after midnight, police received a report of a female yelling for assistance in the area of Leilani Street and Kanoelehua Avenue.  Responding officers determined that a masked male suspect attempted to rob an employee of the Minit Stop but fled after residents in the area came to assist the employee.

A temporary one-way traffic pattern will be in effect along a portion of Mohouli Street from Monday, May 9, through Wednesday, May 25, weather permitting.

On those dates, traffic will flow only in the makai, or easterly, direction on Mohouli Street between Popolo Street and Kinoole Street between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
