A Hilo man is police custody in connection with a burglary last year in Hilo. The burglary on Kapaka Street in Hilo was reported on October 27. Investigation led to the identity of a suspect, identified as 40-year-old Kai Inman of Hilo.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:19 a.m. alarm Sunday (Jan 8) to the old Hilo Lanes bowling alley building in Hilo for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a 400 square-foot attached storage building engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the blaze quickly under control and the fire was declared out at 3 a.m.

Military convoys between Hilo and PTA, beginning Friday (Jan 6)

After conferring with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, detectives released 35-year-old John Lewis Kahana IV of Hilo at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday (January 4).

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:40 a.m. alarm Sunday (Dec 25) for a crashed delivery truck on the Puainako Extension near the 4 Mile Marker in Hilo.

Crews arrived at the crash scene to find an overturned delivery truck laying on the driver's side down an 8-foot embankment with diesel fuel leaking from the fuel tanks. The driver was able to get out of the truck before crews arrived.
