Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the body of a man found floating off the Hāmākua Coast on August 16.

He was identified Thursday evening (August 18) as 28-year-old Adam Hartzog, who had no permanent address but frequented the Hilo area.

Police thank the public for providing information that helped to establish his identity.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:08 p.m. alarm Tuesday (Aug 8) to the Honolii Beach area for a body reported floating offshore.

Crews in Rescue Boat 2 met with a boater of a 13' Boston Whaler who reported the body about 0.7 miles offshore of Honolii Beach. The body was found floating about 15 feet away from the Boston Whaler in the open ocean. Firefighters loaded the body onboard the rescue boat and transported it to the Wailoa Boat Ramp in Hilo where it was turned over to police.

Police are searching for a Hilo woman wanted on warrants

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 22-year-old woman who is wanted on three bench warrants for contempt of court. Lacey Ignacio of Hilo is also wanted for questioning in connection with financial crimes. She is described as 5-foot-4, 160 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 32-year-old man who is wanted on three bench warrants for violating probation. Christopher J. Igawa-Silva is described as 5-foot-7, 170 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. His last known address was in Hilo.

Man stealing tablet computer seen in surveillance image

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a theft at a business establishment on the 200 block of Kekuanaoa Street in Hilo. At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man entered the business and removed an electronic tablet valued at $450. His image was captured on a surveillance camera.

Police seek purse thief caught on camera

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the theft of a customer’s purse from a retail establishment on the 300 block of East Makaʻala Street in Hilo. At approximately 3:40 p.m. on August 4, an unidentified man removed the purse from a shopping cart before leaving the store.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:45 p.m. alarm Wednesday (Aug 10) to the Wailuku River in Kaumana for a drowning.

Crews arrived to an area in the Upper Wailuku River known to locals as 'Narnia' where they found three people on the river bank. The people said a family member had jumped into the water and had difficulty swimming. They jumped in to rescue him be were not able to hold onto him.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 16-year-old Hilo boy who was reported missing.

George P. Apo was last seen in Hilo on June 15. He is described as local, 6-feet tall, 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Police have identified two individuals who died in a two-car crash Thursday (August 4) on the Mohouli Extension near Kukuau Street in Hilo.

The woman has been identified as 20-year-old Alicia Andres of Hilo.

The other deceased person was identified as a 17-year-old boy. Police are not releasing his name because he is a minor.

Police seek ID of man caught on camera during theft

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in a theft investigation. On July 28, a man entered a grocery store on the 200 block of Kinoʻole Street in Hilo, took items valued at $157, and left the store without paying.
