Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating reports of shots fired late Sunday (May 10) in Hilo.

At 10:08 p.m. Sunday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to the upper Waiākea area of Hilo, where several residents said they heard multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Haihai Street and Nou Street. One car was damaged in the incident.

A 66-year-old Hilo man reported that he received a telephone call from someone claiming to work for a company offering third-party extended warranties for vehicles. The caller knew the vehicle ID number of the man’s car.

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 41-year-old Hilo man wanted on three bench warrants. Christian E. Alameda is wanted on two bench warrants for contempt of court and one for failure to appear in court. Police also want to question him in connection with an arson investigation.

Military convoys to travel between Hilo and PTA May 1-2, 2015

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy between Keaukaha Military Reservation (Hilo) and Pōhakuloa Training Area, beginning Friday (May 1). Convoys will travel from KMR to PTA May 1, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and will return from PTA to KMR May 2, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 23-year-old Kalyp Rapoza of Hilo, who was wanted on warrants and for questioning in a terroristic threatening investigation. Rapoza was arrested Friday night and charged with contempt of court, violating terms of release and discharge of sureties.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:23 p.m. alarm Wednesday (April 22) to the open ocean about 400 yards off Honolii Beach Park for a pair sailors in distress.

Rescuers found two females, who are visitors to the Big Island, sitting on the hull of an overturned 14-foot sailboat.

Using a Billy Pugh net Chopper One was able to airlift the visitors to shore for later transport to Hilo Medical Center to be checked-out.
