Between the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight, (October 20) Kamehameha Avenue will close from Ponahawai Street to the Canoe Landing entrance so crews can move concrete barriers.

The Pauahi Street/Bayfront Highway intersection will remain open, however; no turns will be allowed on to Kamehameha Avenue.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a burglary that was discovered over the weekend at Haili Christian School in Hilo.

Sometime between 1:30 p.m. Friday (October 10) and 4:30 p.m. Sunday (October 12), unknown persons entered several classrooms at the private school at 190 Ululani Street and removed a Cannon camera and lenses, two Kamaka ukuleles, another ukulele imprinted with foreign words, a red HD web camera, a Bible and cash.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 17-year-old Hilo girl who was reported missing. Makaala Pea was last seen in Hilo on July 28. She is described as Hawaiian, 5-foot-5, 120 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Hilo man is charged with burglary, theft and contempt of court

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 35-year-old Josiah Ikaika Konanui of Hilo, who was wanted on a bench warrant and for a burglary. Konanui was arrested by the Area I Burglary Task Force on Friday (October 3) and charged with first-degree burglary, fourth degree theft and contempt of court. His bail was set at $6,250.
