The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for east facing shores of Maui and Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. Thursday (Aug 13).

Surf is forecast to be in the range of 8-12 feet along east facing shores. A small craft advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday for Kauai windward waters, the Kauai Channel, Oahu windward and leeward waters, The Kaiwi Channel, Maui County windward and leeward waters, Hawaii Island leeward and southeast waters.

An east-southeast swell generated by Hurricane Hilda is building along east facing shores of the Big Island and east Maui tonight and will peak late Monday and Tuesday.

Surf is forecast to be in the 6-10 foot range tonight and Monday rising to 8-12 feet Monday night and Tuesday.
