Wind, High Surf and Small Craft Advisories for the Big Island continue

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Wind Advisory for the Big Island until midnight tonight (April 3). Included in the advisory are North and East Kohala, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea and Waikoloa. There is a High Surf Advisory for the East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Friday (April 4).

High Surf Advisory for East facing shores of Big Island, record rainfall yesterday in Hilo

A record rainfall of 5.17 inches was set in Hilo Tuesday (April 1). This breaks the old record of 3.57 inches let in 1972. A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday (April 3) for East facing shores of the Big Island.

Surf is forecast to be five to eight feet along East facing shores of the Big Island. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for the Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Windward, Leeward and Southeast waters.

Surf along North facing shores is forecast to be 10-15 feet in hight. Surf along East facing shore is forecast to be eight to 12 feet.

The elevated surf along North facing shores will remain through the night. Surf along East facing shores will remain elevated through Monday night.
