Missing inmate Chung-Hoon is arrested and returned to HCCC

Missing extended furlough inmate Troy Chung-Hoon was arrested this morning by Hawaii County Police and returned to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC). On January 26, Chung-Hoon failed to check in, as scheduled, with his case manager at the Hale Nani Reintegration Center in Hilo.

One inmate, who was housed in that unit, is confirmed to have a case of chickenpox. That inmate is currently in isolation to prevent the spread. No other inmates have shown symptoms of chickenpox. As a precaution, the Waianuenue male housing unit is under quarantine this weekend. Inmates in that unit will be allowed extra phone calls to make up for the lost visits. Visits in all other HCCC housing units are still running as scheduled this weekend.

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a 33-year-old Hilo man in connection with a burglary and arson investigation involving a break-in and intentionally set fire at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in Hilo. 

On Monday evening, (October 16), police and fire units responded to the old section of the facility off Waiānuenue Avenue. Arriving units found cells on the second floor of the building fully engulfed in flames. This portion of the facility was used as storage with the bottom floor utilized by maintenance personnel. It is a separate building from any other on the grounds used to house inmates. No inmates were in danger at any time therefor no evacuation was needed or conducted.

Dept of Public Safety graduates 42 officers for correctional facilities

The Department of Public Safety (PSD) today welcomed a new class of adult correctional officers at a graduation ceremony held at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. Forty-two (42) recruits graduated from Basic Corrections Recruit Class (BCRC) 17-02 training and will begin their careers as correctional officers in facilities across the state.

Missing extended furlough inmate Daniel Abraham was returned at 3:45 this afternoon to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC). He was arrested on Saturday, July 23, in the Kealakekua area by Hawaii County Police.  Abraham failed to report to the Hale Nani Reintegration Center for his scheduled check-in on February 19.

Inmate fails to return to Hale Nani Reintergration Center

Hawaii furlough inmate Scottie Yanagawa failed to return from a day pass to the Hale Nani Reintegration Center. Yanagawa left this morning and was scheduled to return at 2 p.m. State Sheriffs and Hawaii Police were notified. 29-year old Yanagawa is 5’5” tall and weighs 165 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
