High winds lead to HawaiianTelcom fiber cable cut in North Kona, phones and internet affected *UPDATED*

At about 3:30 p.m. today, a break was discovered on Hawaiian Telcom’s fiber cable on Mamalahoa Highway near Hualalai Ranch. Technicians located the damaged cable in a remote wooded area that is full of trees. High winds are believed to have snapped the 36-pair fiber cable.

HawaiianTel outage between Waikoloa and Naalehu due to cable cut is repaired

Hawaiian Telcom technicians completed splicing more than 500 feet of fiber cable, restoring all services to impacted customers just before 7:30 p.m. tonight. Hawaiian Telcom again thanks its customers for their patience and understanding during this emergency service outage.

HawaiianTel restores service to all but 500 customers in Puna

Hawaiian Telcom restored service to more than 1,000 customers in the Puna District over the past two days, bringing the total number of customers out of service to about 500. Thousands of damaged wires needed to be spliced together.

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) has announced that at approximately 5 p.m. an outage occurred on Middle Keei Road in Kona affecting 130 customers. The outage was caused by a motor vehicle crash that brought down one 40' pole as well as damaging a guy pole and two spans of conductors. Hawaiian Tel and Oceanic Cable services were also affected.
