Hawaiʻi Island police are releasing the name of a man who went missing last weekend while fishing from a cliff in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna.

He has been identified as 51-year-old Joseph M. Leialoha of Keaʻau.

Search continues for lost fisherman off MacKenzie State Park in Puna

Fire/rescue crews spent another day searching for a 56-year-old fisherman last seen about 9 p.m. Friday (June 6) before falling into the ocean near MacKenzie State Park. Sources say the man either fell or was swept into the water by a wave fronting the Malama Flats area.

Rescue crews searched the shoreline fronting Malama Flats near MacKenzie State Park for a missing 56-year-old fisherman who was last seen 9 p.m. Friday (June 6) in the area. Witnesses said the man was swept out to sea after either slipping or being washed off a 10-foot cliff by a wave.

The fisherman was reported to have been using a 'throw net' and was swept into the ocean by a wave in rough ocean conditions.
