Firefighers responded to a 4:13 a.m. alarm for a structure fire at 271 Haili Street Wednesday (April 26).

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from an apartment complex. Upon entering a unit filled with smoke flames were seen in the center of the studio apartment. The fire was out by 4:30 a.m. with the room charred by the high heat of the fire.

Firefighters responded to an 11:55 a.m. alarm Saturday (April 15) to 853 Kealakai Street in Panaewa for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find an abandoned 16,000 square-foot single-story steel building that used to be a poultry and hog farm with about 25 percent of its contents on fire. The building contained used appliances and various mechanical items in disarray.

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 8:52 a.m. alarm Friday (April 7) to a structure fire mauka of Holualoa Elementary School in Kona.

Crews arrived to find a two-story home smoldering on the southeast downstairs corner of the house. A neighbor was using a garden hose to prevent the spread of the fire. Firefighters had the blaze out at 9:15 a.m.

Fire/rescue units responded to a 2:43 a.m. alarm Thursday (March 30) to 133 Alawaena Street in Waiakea for a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived to find a homeowner using a garden hose to put out a fire at a wood working shop. About 30 percent of the 20-by-40 foot wood shop was burned. Crews used a thermal camera to pinpoint hotspots and put them out for the owner.

This is a Civil Defense Road Update for Thursday, March 23 at 5 PM. Hawaii Police Dept. reports Henry St. in Kailua-Kona, which was closed earlier due to a brush fire, is now completely reopened. All area roads are open.

Firefighters responded to a 11:18 a.m. alarm Tuesday (Feb 7) for the second day of a brushfire in Naalehu between the 62-63 mile markers of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11).

Crews arrived to find the 200 acre brushfire buring with 10-13 mph winds gusting to 15 mph from the south. There were no structures threatened by the fire which was burning pastureland, brush, trees and thick grass.

Fire/rescue responded to a 7:07 p.m. alarm Thursday (Feb 2) to Royal Poinciana Way in Kona for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find flames coming out of the front two windows of a two bedroom, one bath duplex. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen and living room areas but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the home. Most of the contents of the home were destroyed but there was little damage to the structure of the house itself.

Hawaiʻi Island police are seeking witnesses to the start of a fire Monday (January 16) in Pāhoa.

The fire started just after midnight Monday at a vacant business at 15-2948 Pāhoa Government Road next to Luquin’s restaurant in Pāhoa town.

Police do not suspect foul play. They ask anyone who saw or heard the start of the fire to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Wendall Carter at 961-2383 or wendall.carter@hawaiicounty.gov.
