Fire/rescue responded to a 5:35 p.m. alarm Sunday (Oct 15) to the Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) near the 69 mile marker for a brush fire in South Kohala.

Crews arrived to find a 200-foot by 30-foot brush fire on the makai sie of the highway burning in strong trade winds at 25-40 mph. About 25 good samaritans had contained the fire using water bottles, soda, beer and fire extinguishers.

Fire/rescue crews answered a 10:42 a.m. alarm Wednesday (Oct 4) to Kona Drive in Ocean View for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a two-story home about 80 percent engulfed in flames with most of the first floor burning and the entire second story burning. Firefighters put out the fire and searched the structure determining there was nobody home at the time of the blaze. There were no injuries reported in the fire.

Fire/Rescue crews responded to a 10:43 a.m. alarm Tuesday (Oct 3) to the Papaaloa Road and Oshiro Camp Road intersection for a brush fire in Laupahoehoe.

Crews found a brushfire in vacant land buring 10-12 foot tall grass. The fire rapidly spread due to gusty trade winds at 25-35 mph. By 12:30 p.m. the fire was under control and had burned about 20 acres.

Firefighters responded to a 8:55 p.m. alarm Monday (Oct 2) to 15-1093 Ala Heiau Road for a structure fire in Puna.

Firefighters arrived to find a small fire in a garage carport which they put out by 9:08 p.m. The fire was confined to a storage room and the carport.

Crews arrived to find a single-story un-permitted house engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 4 a.m. and it was declared out at 4:30 a.m.

The brushfire in the Ka‘u district near South Point as of 2 p.m. Monday (Sept 25) was about 80 percent contained on the fourth day of firefighting efforts. The fire area extends from Waikapuna Bay to within 3/4 miles of Green Sands Subdivision and has over a dozen spot fires outside of the main fire area. On Sunday these spot fires range from 100 square feet to several acres.

Firefighters responded to a 5:17 a.m. alarm Thursday (Sept 21) to the Waikapuna Bay area of Ka‘u for a brushfire.

The remote area and limited four-wheel-drive roads made access difficult for firefighters who arrived to find about five acres of grass and brush burning. Bulldozers cut fire breaks as the Fire Department's Choppers One and Two were able to perform water drops slowing the spread of the brushfire which was fanned by strong trade winds during the day.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:28 a.m. alarm to Blane's Drive Inn at 150 Wiwoole Street in Hilo for a fire.

Upon arrival firefighters found that good samaritans had already put out the fire which was outside the takeout counter burning a 12 by 6 foot area. The good samaritans made the call for the fire department. They saw the fire and kicked in a door into Blane's to get a fire extinguisher from the building and put the blaze out.

Firefighters responded to a 5:02 a.m. alarm Monday (Sept 11) to Diamond Auto Workz at 73-4156 Hulikoa Drive for a structure fire.

Fire companies from Kailua-Kona, Makalei, Keauhou, South Kohala and a Battalion Chief from Waikoloa worked to extinguish the structure fire at Diamond Auto Workz in the Kohanaiki industrial area. Upon arrival firefighters found one bay of a five-bay metal warehouse engulfed in flames with fire spreading to two adjoining bays. Crews had the fire under control by 5:55 a.m. and it was declared out at 6:30 a.m.
