Fire/rescue crews responded to a 4:27 a.m. alarm Thursday (Jan 29) to 25th Avenue (Okika Ave) on the makai side between Paradise Drive and Kaloli Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a single story, three bedroom home of about 1,000 square-feet under construction with a fire in the hallway and living room. Firefighters had the fire out by 4:40 a.m.

Hawaiʻi Island detectives are at the scene of a fatal fire in Hōlualoa.

At 1:56 a.m. Thursday (January 29), Kona Patrol officers responded to a residential fire on the 76-5200 block of Old Māmalahoa Highway.

When they arrived, the one-story house was fully engulfed in flames. Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire.

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the man who died New Year’s Eve (December 31) in a structure fire in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

He was identified as 67-year-old Dale Gorrell of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

The cause of death is undetermined pending toxicology results.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Responding to a 9 p.m. call, officers arrived at a home on the 92-9100 block of Lehua Lane to find firefighters at the scene. The flames had been extinguished but the house was still smoldering.

Police and firefighters responding to a 4:30 a.m. report found the fire concentrated at the northwest corner of the building. Fire personnel extinguished the flames and estimated the damage to the walls and roof area at $65,000.
