This Christmas, the Friends of Washington Place is hosting a special Christmas Open House with holiday entertainment and historical stories on Friday, December 16, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Reservations are required for this event and can be made by calling 586-0248 by Thursday, December 15th.

Holualoa Village celebrates the beginning of  the holiday season this Saturday evening with its 15th annual Music & Light Festival. The free public event begins with the lighting of the Village Christmas tree on the lawn of the Library at dusk and runs until 8:30 p.m.

This year’s parade will be – as always – the first Saturday of the month -- Dec. 3, 2011, but will begin a half hour earlier than ever before – at 5:30 p.m. -- to encourage youth groups and other walking units to participate.  Waimea’s Christmas parade “signature” of a convoy of festively trucks from all over the island will again join the fun, as will HELCO’s Toys For Tots Train, Hawai’i County Police and Fire Departments and most important of all to keiki – North Hawai’i Community Hospital’s Santa Float.

To accommodate large volumes of rubbish normally disposed of on the day after Christmas and New Year’s, all County of Hawai‘i solid waste recycling and transfer stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 26 and Saturday, January 2.

These special hours will apply to these two days only, and normal Saturday hours will resume on Saturday, January 9, 2010. All other solid waste rules and regulations apply.
