A 69-year-old Kealakekua man died yesterday (November 6) from injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle at a residence in Captain Cook.
The victim was identified as Robert J. Flores, of a Kealakekua address.
Responding to an 11:40 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that a 75-year-old Captain Cook man was operating a 1996 Mazda pick-up truck and was reversing towards a residence which he and the victim were repairing.

Big Island police are searching for a missing 17-year-old girl.
Kuuleinani Taketa was last seen at her Captain Cook home on March 15. She is described as being of Hawaiian-Chinese-Japanese descent, 5-feet tall, about 115 to 121 pounds with brown eyes and medium-length brown hair.

Responding to a 10:15 p.m. call Friday (September 3), officers learned that a 52-year-old man identified as Bruce Berard of Kailua-Kona was night diving with companions when they found him unresponsive in the water. Berard was brought to shore, where his companions attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Emergency medical services personnel transported Berard to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m. Saturday (September 4).

Big Island police have released a Honoka’a woman who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, terroristic threatening and assault. After conferring with prosecutors, police released 35-year-old Kuulei Aloha Ancheta at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday (June 15) pending further investigation.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

Big Island police are investigating multiple cases of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle in Captain Cook.
Sometime between 11:30 p.m. Monday (May 31) and 8 a.m. Tuesday (June 1), the suspect broke into three cars parked at a home in Captain Cook and stole multiple items, including a credit card.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 12:46 p.m. alarm Thursday (Dec 10) for a structure fire at 82-1041 Kinue Road in Captain Cook.
Firefighters found a two-story home with approximately 30% of the building on fire primarily in a storage area under the house with flames wrapping around the outside to the top floor.
