After two unexpected trips of the 60 MW Hamakua Energy Partners (HEP) power plant on Wednesday and Thursday (April 13-14) of last week, the HEP plant remains out of service and is not expected to return until Friday. Hawai‘i Electric Light is experiencing narrow generation reserves this week.

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) today asked the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for a 4.2% increase in rates, equal to $19.8 million in added revenue. This is the first HELCO rate request since 2009, after which the PUC ultimately approved a 1.3% increase.
