Hawaiʻi Island police have been investigating a rash of burglaries in Kona.

During the month of September, police responded to 33 burglaries in the Kona District, including 13 along Aliʻi Drive. Many of those were in condominium units, where the intruders gained entry using unlocked sliding glass doors.

Brandon Kingsbury-Santiago, 20, of Kailua-Kona was charged at 4:05 p.m. Sunday with two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of criminal trespass, one count of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, two counts of second-degree theft, one count of third-degree theft and a liquor violation involving a minor.

Big Island police are investigating burglaries at two restaurants in Kailua- Kona.

While investigating the first burglary, which occurred between June 4 and June 5, Kona patrol officers learned that two men and three juveniles were reportedly trespassing in a vacant apartment in a building next door. Officers arrested them for criminal trespass and located a laptop reported stolen from the restaurant.

One or more persons entered two units on Olona Street and one unit on Kapi'olani Street sometime between Sunday night (September 20) and Monday morning (September 21) and removed electronic items from within the units. At the Olona Street building, a car and personal items outside one of the units also were taken.
