University of Hawaii at Hilo seniors Vince Sanekane (Pahoa, Hawaii) and Zach Wilde (Snohomish, Wash.) have been named recipients of the Coach Jimmy Yagi Basketball Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.

Kona’s Hanato-Smith added to UH-Hilo women’s basektball roster

University of Hawaii at Hilo Women’s Basketball Coach David Kaneshiro loaded up on guards for the 2011-12 season with the addition of Jameia McDuffie, Shannon Rousseau, Kirsten Shimizu and Thea Hanato-Smith to his roster.
“We are very excited that they will be a part of our program,” said Kaneshiro. “They are all very skilled guards, smart players, and tough competitors.
“In addition to their on-court success, they are also good students with strong character.”

‘Team Happy’ takes HI-PAL Spring basketball championship

On May 13, the league concluded with two semi-final games and a championship game played at Andrews Gym. The team coming out on top was “Team Happy,” with with players representing Waiākea Intermediate and Kamehameha Schools.

UH-Hilo signs two new players to Vulcan basketball squad

University of Hawaii at Hilo basketball coach Jeff Law went after one player from Sacramento City College and got two as C.J. Brown and Kiel Myers will be joining the Vulcans for the 2011-12 season.

HI-PAL ‘Click It or Ticket’ 3-3 basketball tournament registration opens

The Hawai’i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section and the Hawai’i Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL) are sponsoring “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 basketball tournaments at six different locations.

HI-PAL Spring basketball league starts Friday (March 4)

The Hawai’i Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL) will again hold a boys and girls intermediate school Spring basketball league.
League play will begin Friday, March 4, and end Friday, May 13. Games will be played at Andrews Gym, Honomū Gym and the Hilo Armory.

Hawaii Island Hoops Basketball Mini-Camp in Kona (March 12-13)

Registration opens for Halloween Havoc HI-PAL basketball tournament

The East Hawai’i HI-PAL program, in collaboration with Ben Pana and the Keaukaha Community Association Athletics Program, will hold the Fourth Annual “Halloween Havoc” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Keaukaha. This two-day tournament will be held October 23-24 at the Kawananakoa gymnasium.
