The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s traffic Services Section and the Hawai’i Police Activities League (HI-PAL) held two “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 basketball tournaments in July. The first was held on July 16 at the Honokaʻa sports complex gymnasium and the second was held July 23 at the Parks & Recreation facility on the Pāhoa School grounds.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Traffic Services Section and the Hawaiʻi Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL) have added a new event to their schedule to attract high school students.
The new Click It or Ticket 5-on-5 High School Basketball Tournament is a first-time event. It will be held 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 20-21 at the Hilo Armory. Teams interested in participating may call Officer Joeseph Botelho Jr. at 961-2220 or Officer Randy Morris at 326-4646, extension 258.

University of Hawaii at Hilo seniors Vince Sanekane (Pahoa, Hawaii) and Zach Wilde (Snohomish, Wash.) have been named recipients of the Coach Jimmy Yagi Basketball Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.

University of Hawaii at Hilo Women’s Basketball Coach David Kaneshiro loaded up on guards for the 2011-12 season with the addition of Jameia McDuffie, Shannon Rousseau, Kirsten Shimizu and Thea Hanato-Smith to his roster.
“We are very excited that they will be a part of our program,” said Kaneshiro. “They are all very skilled guards, smart players, and tough competitors.
“In addition to their on-court success, they are also good students with strong character.”

On May 13, the league concluded with two semi-final games and a championship game played at Andrews Gym. The team coming out on top was “Team Happy,” with with players representing Waiākea Intermediate and Kamehameha Schools.
