Vulcans top the Silverswords in women’s soccer

Vulcans top the Silverswords in women’s soccer

MEDIA RELEASE

First-year UHH head coach Marc Miranda will be sleeping a little easier after the Vulcans opened his tenure with a 4-0 win over Chaminade University in a non-Pacific West Conference match on the UHH field.

“It feels good to just get the first game out of the way,” said Miranda. “We wanted to keep the pressure on the whole time.”

The Vulcans are 1-0 while the Silverswords are 0-1.

The pressure was applied just a minute-14 into the match as Lynne DuPont found Emily Lambert in the middle for a clear shot on goal and a 1-0 lead which they held until half.

“Of course, there were lapses,” said Miranda. “We didn’t play a complete match. I think we played a good 45 minutes…20 in first and 25 in the second.”

The intensity picked up in the second half as Akemi Rair scored her first collegiate goal on a pass from Analysa Rodriguez, 4:25 into the period.

Daynee Moriwaki picked up a goal at the 73:19 mark in the penalty box. With both teams scrambling for ball possession, Moani Hagiwara’s chip found Moriwaki to make the score 3-0.

Ten minutes later, Shannel Ramirez took a pass from Nathalie Palacios for a clean shot of goal.

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE (2/23/10)

We apologize but have to CANCEL our camp in Kona on March 12-14th. The fields were double-booked with AYSO and obviously we do not want to interfere with already scheduled games or leagues.

Please contact me if you have any questions either by email or on my cell (516-404-4475).

Hawaii Prep girl’s soccer coach Steve Perry said, “I was real pleased how our girls kept composed today and kept applying pressure on the Honokaa defense. Katie Case and Emily Evans did a great job in the middle of the field controlling the ball all game long and Noe Enos and Ku’uipo Nakoa played their best game working together up front.

It was nice to get everyone into the game in the 2nd half as the entire team has been working very hard in practice this week.

The girls wanted to keep their position with the standings in the west before the play-offs start. Getting the top seed in the west was one of our team goals … now we go onto our next goals.”
