The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation will close the Herbert Shipman Park tennis courts starting Monday, September 19, and keep them closed through Friday, September 23, so it can clean the courts.

The tennis courts will reopen for play on Saturday, September 24.

Other areas of Herbert Shipman Park, located in Kea‘au, will remain open while the maintenance work is being performed.

Results of the 3rd Annual Milolii Long Distance Canoe Race Saturday (Aug 27)

Results of the 3rd Annual Miloli’i Long Distance canoe race held Saturday (Aug 27) at Milolii. The women and mixed teams paddled 6.6 miles to “Two Stone” and back to the finish line at Milolii with the men’s crews racing 9.2 miles to Kipahoehoe and return to Milolii.

Results of Keoua’s 30th Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Race Saturday (Aug 20)

The 30th annual Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Canoe Races were sponsored by Keoua Canoe Club and held at Honaunau Saturday (Aug 20). All races started and finished at Honaunau. The Juniors raced on a three mile course, Women and Mixed crews on an eight mile course, with the Men paddlers racing for 10 miles.

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation has extended the registration deadline for its 20th Annual ‘Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament until Friday, August 12. 

Completed registration forms must be turned in to the Recreation Division office located at 799 Pi‘ilani Street in Hilo or postmarked by Friday, August 12. Registration forms, along with tournament rules, are available at County Parks and Recreation facilities island-wide, S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo and J. Hara Store in Kurtistown. The forms also can be found online at: http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/pr-recreation/.

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announces it will close the Hilo Trap and Skeet Range temporarily starting Monday, August 1, so the facility may undergo necessary accessibility upgrades.

The range is expected to remain closed through September and be reopened in early October 2016. A follow-up announcement will be issued before the range is reopened.
