The 2017 Girls Hawaiʻi Isle Police Activities League (volleyball league) ran from (April 10 to May 22). This was their third annual girls competition. It consisted of six teams of High School age girls across the island. There were twenty-nine at risk youth out of sixty-one participants.

Lobster and Kona Crab season closes Monday, May 1, 2017

If you love your fresh-caught local lobster or Kona crab, remember the closed season for ula (spiny lobster), ula papapa (slipper lobster) and Kona crab runs from May 1 through the end of August. During that time it’s illegal to take, possess, or sell these shellfish.

A new quarterly newsletter for hunters has been launched this month by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW).  "Go Hunt Hawai‘i," is designed to help improve communication between the hunting community, other interested parties and resource managers.

HI-PAL Youth Volleyball Clinic brings college coaching to Ka‘u

Seventy-two youths participated in the HI-PAL Youth Volleyball Clinic held December 1 at the new Kaʻū District Gym in Pāhala. The free clinic was held in partnership with the UH-Hilo Vulcan Women’s Volleyball Team, County of Hawaiʻi Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Community Policing Section-Hawaiʻi Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL).
