Kona Stingrays

Kona Stingrays are HI-PAL basketball champions

Seventy-eight youths from 10 teams participated in the HI-PAL Click It or Ticket 14 and Under Hoops Championships this past weekend, April 4-6, at the Waiākea-Uka gym.

In the finals, Austin Ewing scored 13 points and Steven Texeira added 12 as Kona Stingrays ran past Hoop Dreams 53-28 to claim the championship. Keawe Silva led Hoop Dreams with 13 points.

Hilo’s NAS Pool closed for repairs starting today (March 17)

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation will close Hilo’s NAS Swimming Pool from Monday, March 17, through Friday, March 28, in order to perform necessary repair work.

The temporary closure is needed to replace a leaking mechanical seal and worn bearings that are part of the pool’s circulation system.

The Department of Parks and Recreation apologizes for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause and thanks the public for its understanding while the repairs are being made.

Results of the 3rd Annual Kauikeaouli Challenge Race

Keauhou Canoe Club’s 3rd Annual Kauikeaouli Challenge Race for OC6 canoes for Recreational paddlers took place Saturday (March 15) at Keauhou Bay.

Held as one of the events of the Lani Kauikeaouli Festival weekend and sponsored by Kamehameha Schools this event has grown each year, and gives enthusiastic recreational paddlers a chance to experience racing.

Results of the HIPA OC1/OC2/SUP race in Keauhou Saturday (March 15)

Results of the HIPA (Hawaii Island Paddlesports Association) OC1/OC2/Standup Paddleboard race that took place Saturday (March 15) at Keauhou Bay.

Named in honor of Keauhou Canoe Club paddler, the late Eda Hinchcliff, the Kuuipo race has been running for 16 consecutive years. Sponsored by Kamehameha Schools, this year’s race is one of the Kauikeaouli Festival weekend events.
