The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory for Big Island summits above 8,000 feet until 6 p.m. this evening (March 26).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the high surf advisory for East facing shores of the Big Island until 4 p.m. this afternoon (March 25).
Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range. The high surf will be rough and create strong rip currents. Swimmers and beachgoers should use caution due to these rip currents and localized beach erosion.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Monday (March 26) for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels and waters South of the Big Island.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the high surf advisory for East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Sunday (March 25).
Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range along North and East shorelines. Rough surf and rip currents will be create dangerous ocean conditions for swimmers and localized beach erosion.

The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale is the standard used to measure hurricane intensity, and this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is making a modification of the scale. The changes go into effect as of May 15, 2012. The scale is being adjusted slightly to resolve issues associated with the conversion of units used for wind speed.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Saturday (March 24).
Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range. The rough surf will produce also strong rip currents. Swimmers and beachgoers are advised to use caution in and near the ocean due to dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.
There is also a small craft advisory for all Hawaiian waters until 6 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Kamuela and Waikoloa on the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday (March 12).
Northeast winds of 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast. Winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make driving difficult for high profile vehicles.

Strong tradewinds from the East at 20-30 mph are forecast with gusts up to 45 mph.
