Delivery truck crash closes Puainako Extension Sunday morning (Dec 25)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:40 a.m. alarm Sunday (Dec 25) for a crashed delivery truck on the Puainako Extension near the 4 Mile Marker in Hilo.

Crews arrived at the crash scene to find an overturned delivery truck laying on the driver’s side down an 8-foot embankment with diesel fuel leaking from the 70 gallon fuel tanks. The driver was able to get out of the truck before crews arrived.

Roadway was closed between Wilder Road and Komohana as a tow truck was brought in to get the truck upright and out. The police are investigating the crash as to the cause.

Police reported the roadway fully open to traffic at 8:33 a.m.
