Police DUI stats for the week of December 5-11, 2016

During the week of December 5, 2016, through December 11, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.

So far this year, there have been 1,039 DUI arrests compared with 1,025 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,338 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,464 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.6 percent.

So far this year, there have been 25 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (five of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 30 fatalities, compared with 14 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 17 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 78.6 percent for fatal crashes and 76.5 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
