Traffic signal installation on Henry Street in Kailua-Kona starting Thursday (Dec 1)

MEDIA RELEASE

The Department of Public Works Traffic Division will be working on the new traffic signals at the Henry St. and Alahou St. intersection beginning on Thursday, December 1st and ending on Thursday, December 15th. Daily work hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., weather conditions permitting. There will be no work on the weekend.

The work involves installing wireless vehicle detection sensors; programing the traffic signals to optimize traffic flow; installing new crosswalks on the Henry St. approaches, striping and signage. Pedestrians are advised that the crosswalks on the Henry St. approaches will closed until the traffic signals are fully operational.

The intersection will remain open and the Traffic Division will work on one approach at a time with Special off-duty police officers supporting them in directing motorists around the lane they are working in. Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

On Wednesday, December 14th, the traffic signal will be in a 24-hour flash mode, yellow on Henry St. and red on Alahou St. The traffic signal will be fully functional and operational on Thursday, Dec 15th.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
