Police DUI stats for the week of October 31-November 6, 2016

During the week of October 31, 2016, through November 6, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 933 DUI arrests compared with 915 during the same period last year, an increase of 2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,198 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,311 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.6percent.

So far this year, there have been 24 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (three of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 28 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 16 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 84.6 percent for fatal crashes and 75 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
