Fire burns four acres in Ka‘u Wednesday (Nov 2)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Firefighters responded to a 9:01 a.m. alarm Wednesday (Nov 2) to Ninole Loop below Sea Mountain Colony One condominiums for a brushfire in Ka‘u.

Crews arrived to find a brushfire about 1.5 acres in size on vacant property containing a mixture of tall grass, brush and trees. The fire was spreading rapidly due to strong north northeast winds.

Firefighters worked to prevent the spread of the fire and extinguished hotspots and had the fire out at 3 p.m. Two crewmembers watched over the site of the fire at night to monitor the area and put out any flareups.

The total acreage burnt was estimated to be four acres.
