Four men were arrested in connection with a robbery Wednesday morning (October 19) in Honomū.
One of the suspects reportedly befriended a 38-year-old homeless man at the Downtown Hilo bus terminal and offered him a place to stay. A car containing three male occupants then drove the other two men to Honomū, where the victim was told to secure the trunk, into which he had put all his possessions. When the victim returned to the car, the doors were locked. As the victim attempted to prevent the car from leaving, the car ran into the victim, causing minor injuries and noticeable damage to the vehicle.
The suspects let the victim back into the car, where he was punched and threatened with a knife. The victim was able to grab a cell phone, exit the car and call 911.
Patrol officers stopped the car a short time later and arrested 18-year-old Isaac Anderson-Belisario of Hilo, 24-year-old Theodore Doi of PÄhoa, 22-year-old Joey Gonsalves of KeaÊ»au and 19-year-old Jason Johnson of PÄhoa.
Doi was charged on a no-bail warrant for violating terms of supervised release and taken to court the next day.
At 9:30 p.m. Thursday (October 20), detectives charged Anderson-Belisario with first-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening, third-degree assault, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $16,500.
Johnson was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangering. His bail was set at $2,500.
Gonzalves was charged with third-degree assault, His bail was set at $500.
Anderson-Belisario, Johnson and Gonsalves remained at the cellblock until their initial court appearances on Friday (October 21).
