Puna home destroyed in morning fire Wednesday (Oct 12)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 4:10 a.m. alarm Wednesday (Oct 12) to a structure fire in Puna.

Crews arrived to a single story unoccupied home engulfed in flames near the intersection of Kahakai Blvd. and Opae St in Hawaiian Shores subdivision.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 4:54 a.m. and it was declared out at 7:03 a.m. There was nobody in the home and there were no injuries reported.

The roadway was closed during the initial firefighting operations and the home and contents were a total loss estimated at $150,000. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
