Police DUI stats for the week of August 15-21, 2016

During the week of August 15, 2016, through August 21, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 11 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 668 DUI arrests compared with 661 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 897 major accidents so far this year compared with 976 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been 13 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities, compared with 12 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 8.3 percent for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
