Police DUI stats for the week of February 22-28, 2016

During the week of February 22, 2016, through February 28, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 181 DUI arrests compared with 157 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 207 major accidents so far this year compared with 231 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.4 percent.

So far this year, there have been two fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island, resulting in two fatalities compared with two fatal crashes (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in four fatalities during the same period last year. This represents a decrease of 50 percent for fatalities.
